So, You Wanna
Know About Me?
Officially I'm an author,
hence this Website.
When I'm writing, you’ll find me in my office, slouched in my chair, keyboard
in my lap, and feet up on a little stool. I suspect this is one
reason I have to regularly visit a chiropractor.
My greatest accomplishment
is not having a book published, although I'm
proud of that. Nope. My greatest accomplishment is being mom to Elizabeth.
She served four years in the Navy, and now lives in
South Dakota with her husband. I won't mention her age lest you think I'm
old. (Suffice it to say I've been receiving offers for
AARP membership for several years now.)
That last paragraph makes me sound
perfectly normal, a facade I maintain most of the time.
But if you sit down with me for any length of time, you might
discover I have some serious some quirks. For instance,
I have voices in my head. Yes, people--book characters--live there, and
they talk to me. A psychologist might call that
schizophrenia and recommend medication. I'm not worried,
though.
I call it the creative process.
The people in my head
talk whenever they feel like it--in
the midst of a conversation, watching a movie, or even
eating. Fortunately, I'm cognizant of the fact that they
are not real, despite their insistence that they are.
Therefore, I don't talk back. Instead, I reach into my purse for a writing
utensil and any handy writing surface such as a used
envelope, napkin, or an old grocery list. Then I begin to jot
down notes.
What flows from that usually
becomes a piece of a book.
But
never fear. The rest of my life is pleasantly routine;
normal, even.
That's good news for everyone, but especially for me. The older I get, the more I enjoy
and thrive on pleasant routine. Even things as mundane as folding
towels and walking the dog can be gratifying in the right
frame of mind.
If you asked my
family and friends what
my favorite thing to do is, they'd probably say laugh. I
laugh a
lot, especially at myself. Hey, if I don't, someone else will, so I
might as well be first. I believe humor is one of God’s gifts to
the human race to help us survive. Laughter can even change the
course of an argument. When we laugh, we win, even in
the midst of sorrow--and especially in the darkest of circumstances.
The joy of my life is seeing
bruised, brokenhearted people healed and restored. That's why I
write inspirational fiction. I hope while people are entertained by
my stories, they will also catch a glimpse of God’s love and how He
restores lives.
